Storms give way to gentler showers, and the humidity finally begins to fade. Landscapes are still lush and green — beautiful, but game viewing remains tricky. The Lower Zambezi becomes accessible again, and Victoria Falls is a jaw-dropping, mist-filled wall of whitewater at full power. Migrant birds begin their long journeys home. Many camps remain closed as black cotton soil stays stubbornly impassable.

The dry season begins, with a few last showers waving goodbye. Cool mornings, warm afternoons, crisp nights — it’s a genuinely gorgeous time to visit. Vegetation thins and wildlife sightings improve, while many camps still offer shoulder season pricing. Victoria Falls remains spectacular as the Zambezi slowly recedes.

Winter settles in! Dry, comfortable, and increasingly spectacular for wildlife. Days are warm, nights crisp, and the thinning bush means game viewing keeps getting better. The wildebeest migration in Liuwa moves north. Walking safaris hit their stride, and canoeing and boat safaris in the Lower Zambezi become irresistible. Victoria Falls recedes enough to finally reveal the gorge.

Prime safari season! Crisp mornings, cloudless skies, and wildlife clustering tightly around the Zambezi and Luangwa rivers for incredible game viewing. The Busanga Plains finally open as floods pull back. Mosquito numbers drop dramatically (yay), and it’s a fantastic time for scenic flights over Victoria Falls.

August is as good as it gets – dry, golden, and brimming with wildlife around every shrinking water source. Misty mornings, clear days, and nights that can drop below 5°C. Dust in the air means extraordinary sunsets — photographers absolutely love it. Victoria Falls is best seen from the sky now; take the helicopter, thank us later.

Summer tiptoes back in, and temperatures creep into the low 30s. Wildlife viewing peaks as animals crowd around dwindling water sources. Rivers become magnets for game, making boating safaris exceptional. Victoria Falls exposes dramatic rock faces at low water, and Devil’s Pool opens for the brave.

Summer returns with a vengeance. Temperatures top 40°C in some regions, and nights rarely dip below 20°C. The bush is bare and dry, making for brilliant sightings if you can bear the heat, with predator action at fever pitch. Hippos and crocodiles pack into shrinking pools like sardines with big teeth. And for fishermen, it’s one of the best months for catch-and-release tiger fishing on the Zambezi.

The first rains trigger the Liuwa wildebeest migration, the world’s second largest, as herds move south to calve. Impala births keep predators very happy. Carmine bee-eaters nest in technicolour colonies — birders, prepare to lose your minds.
