Frequently asked Questions
When we talk about the Cape Winelands, we’re mainly referring to Constantia, Stellenbosch, and Franschhoek. Constantia offers world-class estates just 20 minutes from Table Mountain. Stellenbosch is a magical town of oak-lined streets, surrounded by iconic wine estates, cutting-edge restaurants, and boutique galleries. Franschhoek, the “French Corner” of South Africa, is chic, romantic, and home to some of the country’s most celebrated wineries and fine dining spots, too.
The Winelands shine year-round, but each season offers something special. From September to April, the weather offers warm, sunny days, perfect for leisurely alfresco lunches, wine tastings, and strolling through the vineyards. May to August is cooler, quieter, and cosy — think fireside red wine tastings and misty mountain mornings. Harvest season (February to March) is particularly lively, with cellar tours, grape stomping, and festivals celebrating the season’s harvest.
You have to! With Constantia just around the corner, and Stellies and Franschhoek just 40–60 minutes from Cape Town, it’s an easy day escape. But if you want to truly indulge — long lunches, private cellar tastings, spa sessions, and sunrise vineyard walks — we recommend staying a night or two at one of the region’s luxury wine estates.
The Cape Winelands varieties are as diverse as they are delicious. You’ll find:
- Chenin Blanc — The region’s signature grape, vibrant and endlessly versatile.
- Pinotage — South Africa’s own varietal — smoky, bold, and unique to this corner of the world.
- Chardonnay & Sauvignon Blanc — Crisp, elegant whites perfect for long summer lunches.
- Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz — Rich, powerful reds aged to perfection.
- And don’t miss the MCCs (Méthode Cap Classique) — South Africa’s sparkling answer to champagne, and just as delightful.
Definitely! The Cape Winelands is designed for indulgence and adventure. Hike scenic trails that weave through the vineyards, mountains, and nearby nature reserves. For spa treatments, you’ve come to the right place! Most of the wine estates feature wellness sanctuaries that you will struggle to leave. Then there’s the art & design. From sculpture gardens to galleries hidden among the vines, the Winelands doubles as an open-air art museum. Keep things fun with gourmet pairings. From chocolate and wine tastings, cheese pairings, or even farm-to-table cooking classes, there’s more than enough going on to keep things interesting.
Yes — especially when you know where to go. Many estates cater to families with spacious lawns, picnics under the oaks, wildlife-friendly walks, and kid-friendly tastings (grape juice included). We’ll pair you with estates that balance sophistication with a relaxed atmosphere, so parents can sip and savour while little ones stay entertained.
Why the hell not? When in Rome! And, it’s every bit as spectacular as it sounds. A 15-minute scenic flight from Cape Town lands you right in the heart of the vineyards, with sweeping aerial views of mountains, valleys, and patchwork estates along the way. We’ll arrange exclusive landings at partner wineries so your first tasting begins the moment you step out of the chopper. Whilst you’re at it, why not hop to the Cape Peninsula as a little pitstop on the way?
If you’re a foodie, then you’ve come to the right place, and your suitcase might not be the only thing rolling home. It’s one of the world’s great culinary playgrounds. Think Michelin-level tasting menus in Franschhoek, farm-to-table dining under ancient oak trees in Stellenbosch, and long, sun-drenched lunches in Constantia paired with crisp Chenins and delightful Pinos. Many estates also feature chef’s gardens, artisanal delis, and pop-up pairings, meaning there’s always something delicious around the corner.
