Frequently asked Questions
The islands are warm year-round, but the sweet spot is May to October — dry, sunny days, calm seas, and crystal-clear water for snorkelling and diving. From November to March, the weather is hotter and more humid, with the added bonus of whale sharks, manta rays, and humpback whales cruising by in the summer.
The gateway is Vilanculos, a small coastal town with flights from Maputo, Johannesburg, and Kruger. From Vilanculos, take a speedboat, or even a helicopter, to your chosen island. Transfers are half the fun — spotting sandbanks and turquoise shallows from above is a highlight in itself.
From barefoot-chic beach lodges to high-end luxury villas, the archipelago covers the spectrum. Most stays are small and intimate, with only a handful of rooms or villas, making the entire experience feel private and exclusive. Expect white linens, fresh seafood, and hammocks strung between palms.
This is one of the Indian Ocean’s richest marine reserves. Coral reefs host tropical fish in every colour of the rainbow, plus turtles, dolphins, rays, reef sharks, whale sharks, and (seasonally) humpback whales. The real celebrities? The elusive dugongs, a critically endangered cousin of the manatee found in only a few places on Earth.
Yes — and they’re spectacular. Resorts like andBeyond Benguerra Island and Azura Benguerra offer private villas with plunge pools, beachside dining, and full butler service. It’s castaway luxury at its finest — think Champagne picnics on deserted sandbanks.
Definitely, many travellers pair a few days on safari in Kruger National Park or Hwange with a Bazaruto beach escape. Direct flights connect Kruger and Vilanculos, so it’s an easy bush-and-beach combo: lions one day, dugongs the next.
Snorkelling, diving, dhow sailing, fishing, horse riding on the beach, island-hopping, dune hikes, and spa treatments under the palms. Or you could just laze with a cocktail in hand and call that your chosen “activity.”
Absolutely. Families will love the calm lagoons, sandy beaches, and nature activities. Honeymooners get barefoot romance — private villas, sunset dhow sails, stargazing dinners on the beach, and plenty of time to drift away together.
