Secret hideaways with an eerie twist Namibia Fly-in desert safari

Explore ancient deserts and secret hideaways on a luxury Namibia Fly-in desert safari. Hit the brakes and ease into Namibia’s weird and wonderful desert landscape. Home to some of the world’s largest sand dunes and fascinating desert-adapted wildlife, it’s one of the driest and most sparsely populated countries on earth; the perfect antidote to city living. And a truly unique African safari, deep in the Namib desert. (It’s one of our favourites.)

Over ten unhurried days you’ll get to explore some of Namibia’s most eerie and dramatic scenery – and relax on our Namibia fly-in desert safari designed to experience the desert from up high and up close. From the foggy beaches and dry riverbeds of Skeleton Coast and Hoanib Valley, to the towering rust-red dunes and bleached salt pans of Sossusvlei, this is slow travel at its best.

On the Namibia fly-in desert safari, you’ll set out in search of black rhino and prides of desert lions, fly over mile upon mile of desolate coastline dotted with shipwrecks and sailors’ souls, earn the insane bragging rights that come with trekking up Sossusvlei’s famed 325m Big Daddy dune and find inner peace under the Milky Way.

Highlights

  • Tracking desert-adapted elephant and lion across the remote, other-worldly stretches of the Hoanib Valley.
  • Relishing the heebie-jeebies among the mangled shipwrecks, ancient whalebone shelters and foggy beaches of the Skeleton Coast.
  • Sipping sundowners atop desert dunes and exploring an Atlantic seal colony down below.
  • Getting an iconic shot of Dead Vlei’s fossilised camelthorns in the bleached white salt pan.
  • Unwinding with a night under the stars in your own outdoor bed at Kwessi Dunes

Cool & Unusual

  • Taking on Big Daddy in an epic 325 metre dune climb. Two hours up and just five thrilling minutes down again.

Day by day Itinerary overview

You’ll be met at Windhoek’s international airport and whisked away to one of our favourite places, Omaanda. It’s a beautiful way to catch your breath after a long journey, way better than staying in a city hotel. If you’re keen to kick straight into safari mode, you can head off on an afternoon game drive. Or ease out all your post-flight kinks with some African healing therapy in the spa. The next morning, after sunrise yoga, grab breakfast with the meerkats before heading off, well-rested and ready for a once in a lifetime desert safari.

Head south, towards the luxury villas and endless horizons of Kwessi Dunes. Look down as you fly over the towering red dunes of Sossusvlei and start gearing up for a thrilling excursion to its iconic surrounds. On one of your relaxing peace-filled days here, you’ll enjoy an excursion to the famous Dead Vlei and scale Big Daddy’s 325 sandy metres for 360-degree desert views.

Today you’re desert-bound. You’ll take a charter flight to the remote Hoanib Valley Camp, where you’ll spend three nights in one of just six luxurious, Bedouin-style tents. Watched by herds of giraffe, your days are spent tracking endangered rhino and desert-adapted elephant. You’ll spend time with local Herero people, learning a little about their fascinating way of life. And there’s always plenty of time for game-viewing from your private veranda, drink of choice in hand.

Today’s the day you strap yourself in for a one-of-a-kind scenic plane ride to Shipwreck Lodge on the raw and rugged Skeleton Coast. You’ll spend three foggy nights in a shipwreck-shaped cabin that teeters on the edge of the rolling sand dunes. Game-view by 4x4 or quad bike, spot jackals hunting for straying seal pups in Mowe Bay, sip sundowners on the dunes. And if the weather behaves, a beach lunch pops a cherry on the deliciously eerie top.
