Big Five Botswana Luxury Botswana, Linyanti and Delta

When we dreamed up this adventure, we all said the same thing: “Take me there. Now.” Picture it: 10 day Luxury Botswana, Linyanti and Delta, a trio of exquisite camps, set in the pristine wilderness of two serious safari strongholds – the Okavango Delta and the Linyanti. It’s dynamite.

Once just a large puddle of plain old Kalahari sand, Botswana’s complex system of seasonal floods and rivers attracts bird and mammal species in their hundreds. And you certainly won’t have a hard time finding them.

You’ll start out with thrilling game drives among the big cats, wild dogs and carmine bee-eaters of the Linyanti, before exploring the game-rich Savute channel by helicopter. And then you’re off to the crystal clear waters and grassy floodplains of the world’s largest inland delta, which heaves with everything your safari heart could possibly desire. From insane birdlife, rare sitatunga sightings and sunrise mokoro safaris in the watery Vumbura Plains to the best game viewing on the planet on Chief’s Island, we’re sorry-not-sorry to say: you’ve peaked.

Highlights

  • Epic chance encounters with the Linyanti’s big cats and wild dogs.
  • Rare bird sightings at every turn along the waterways of Vumbura Plains.
  • Gliding through a sea of waterlilies and tiny reed frogs in a mokoro.
  • Catching sight of the Big 5 on Chief’s Island – and just about everything else.
  • Four-figure thread counts, five-star service and endless wine lists.

Cool & Unusual

  • For the adventurous, book a scenic helicopter flip over the Savute channel at dawn.

Break it down Itinerary overview

You’ll board a small bush plane bound for the aptly-named DumaTau – meaning lion’s roar – where three action-packed days along a 45km stretch of the Linyanti River await. Action that comes to you. (Think wild dog-impala takedowns over breakfast and leopards on the boardwalk at night.) When you’re not tearing off in search of predator action or watching elephants drink from your private plunge pool, you'll be sipping a sundowner around the floating fire pit on Osprey Lagoon, counting the hippos – and your blessings, too.

It’s time to swap the dusty stretches of the Linyanti for the winding, waterlily-dotted channels of the Okavango and three nights at the watery Vumura Plains. This is the watery side of your delta experience. You’ll spend your days silently skirting hippos, elephants and crocs in a mokoro – a traditional dugout canoe – and spotting one rare bird after another. And after a nightcap you’ll drift off to sleep each night to the gentle pip-pip-pipping of bell frogs.

Very few people in the world are lucky enough to say they’ve been to Mombo. You’ll spend three nights in one of just eight spacious suites, with sweeping views over the iconic, wildlife-strewn floodplains of Chief’s Island. This is the Okavango – and five-star hospitality – at its absolute finest. And it’s where the land-based side of the delta really shines. You’ll spot everything, from the Big Five to wild dogs, cheetah and hyena – and huge herds of ungulates that keep everyone fed. It’s utterly priceless. But there’s a caveat: no safari after this will ever compare.

Frequently asked Questions

You’ll explore two of Botswana’s most iconic safari destinations: the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve in the north, known for its predator action and vast elephant herds, and the Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its labyrinth of channels, floodplains, and exceptional game viewing. The Delta section includes both the Vumbura Plains area and Chief’s Island, one of the most wildlife-rich parts of the Moremi Game Reserve.

They’re remote, exclusive, and wildly beautiful, meaning fewer people and more wildlife. Linyanti offers some of the best predator sightings in Africa, including wild dogs, lions, and leopards, often without another vehicle in sight. The Delta delivers a completely different kind of magic, with water-based safaris, epic Big Five encounters, rare antelope like sitatunga, and birdlife that will keep your binoculars glued to your face. The combination gives you the full spectrum of Botswana’s safari experience, all in ultimate comfort.

You’ll stay in three exceptional camps, each designed to immerse you in the bush without sacrificing an ounce of comfort. Expect four-figure thread counts, designer interiors, and service so good you’ll wonder how they found staff this charming in the middle of the bush. Locations include the stylish DumaTau on the Linyanti River, Vumbura Plains in the watery wonderland of the Delta, and the exclusive Mombo on Chief’s Island. All small, intimate, and set in prime wildlife areas.

In the Linyanti, think lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, hyena, and massive elephant herds, plus plains game from sable to giraffe. The Delta adds hippos, crocodiles, red lechwe, and an impressive list of over 400 bird species, from malachite kingfishers to African fish eagles. Chief’s Island is prime Big Five territory, with some of the best rhino sightings in Botswana.

For peak game viewing, visit in the winter dry season (May to October) when wildlife concentrates around water sources and the Delta floods create the classic mokoro safari scenes. If you love green landscapes, dramatic skies, and birdlife at its best, the summer (November to April) is equally rewarding, plus it’s quieter and offers excellent photographic opportunities.

Yes! From scenic bush flights between camps to ground transfers and park fees, it’s all part of the package. We handle the logistics so you can focus on enjoying the adventure.

You can expect a mix of classic and high-end safari experiences: game drives, mokoro excursions through the Delta’s channels, boating trips, guided bush walks, and the option to book a scenic helicopter flight over the Savute Channel. Each activity is designed to make the most of your surroundings, whether that’s tracking predators on land or gliding past reed frogs and lilies in a mokoro.
