Recently refurbished in exquisite detail, this extraordinary camp lies on the north-western tip of Chief’s Island in the middle of the Okavango. But this is no ordinary island either. Here, only the best-of-the-best will do, and only a privileged few will get to do it. They call Mombo the ‘Place of Plenty’. From an abundance of big cats to even bigger elephant and buffalo herds, and glimpses of some of Africa’s most endangered species like pangolin, rhino and wild dog, this is hands-down the best game viewing on earth. While we don’t like to talk about money, we will say this is some of the best you’ll ever spend.
The Mombo Experience
The focus at Mombo is on game drives with excellent guides in spacious Landcruisers. You have a very good chance of seeing rhino, thus ticking the boxes on all big five sightings. But the lion is still king, which can mean fewer leopard and wild dog sightings. Moremi game reserve regulations prohibit night drives, walking and driving off-road (unless you ask nicely). Fear not. With such high game density, it is said you can see the big five from your deck. You may never leave your room.
