Frequently asked Questions
No need to worry — we arrange everything for you. Gorilla trekking permits are limited and in high demand, so we secure yours well in advance as part of your itinerary. We’ll handle all the details so you can show up and soak in the experience.
Gorilla trekking is incredible year-round, but the dry seasons from June to September and December to February offer the most comfortable trekking conditions. Trails are less slippery, and visibility in the forest canopy is better.
The difficulty varies depending on where your assigned gorilla family is that day. Treks can take 30 minutes to several hours, with muddy trails, steep inclines, and thick vegetation. It’s moderately challenging but manageable with a basic level of fitness — and your expert guide and porters are there to assist you every step of the way.
Volcanoes National Park is more than just gorillas. You might spot golden monkeys leaping between bamboo thickets, forest buffalo lurking in the undergrowth, and rare birds flashing through the canopy, or by chance, an elusive forest elephant. The park is also home to bushbuck, giant forest hogs, and over 200 bird species — it’s a biodiversity hotspot wrapped around dramatic volcanic landscapes.
Absolutely! It’s one of the most rewarding ways to experience Rwanda. Pair Volcanoes with Nyungwe Forest for a primate-lover’s dream: gorilla trekking one day, chimpanzee tracking the next. Or combine it with Akagera National Park for a Big Five safari on golden savannahs. We’ll curate a seamless, luxury itinerary that connects Rwanda’s highlights — and, if you want, extend the journey into Tanzania, Kenya, or Zanzibar for the ultimate East African escape.
Volcanoes National Park is just a 2.5-hour scenic drive from Kigali. You’ll have a private transfer, allowing you to sit back and enjoy the journey through Rwanda’s rolling green hills and villages along the way. For guests wanting the ultimate shortcut, we can also organise charter helicopter flights directly to your lodge, giving you stunning aerial views of the Virunga volcanoes as you arrive in style.
Yes — some of Rwanda’s most beautiful hideaways are tucked into the foothills around Volcanoes National Park. Expect architectural masterpieces blending into the forest, with private suites, outdoor decks overlooking the Virunga peaks, wine cellars, spa treatments, and fine dining inspired by local flavours. Think secluded luxury in the heart of Rwanda’s wildest landscapes — the perfect sanctuary before and after your trek.
Each gorilla family can only be visited by a maximum of eight guests per day, ensuring an intimate and low-impact experience. Once you find your assigned troop, you’ll spend one magical hour observing them — a moment that feels deeply personal and carefully protected.
