Namoroka Tsingy Camp

Start Planning

Setting the Scene

Adventure starts right out of the gates with your journey to Namoroka Tsingy Camp. A charter flight from Antananarivo lands you in Soalala, where a 4×4 takes over for a 2.5-hour “Madagascar massage” along the road less travelled, right to the edge of the towering Tsingy de Namoroka. This camp doesn’t do easy access, and that’s exactly the point – this is one of Madagascar’s most rarely visited corners.

Nets for the Night

Namoroka Tsingy Camp is your cool relief (a small miracle in the tropics) from the sweaty adventure you’ll be having this side of the island. For being in the middle of nowhere, absolutely nothing is a compromise. The tents themselves strike that perfect balance between “I’m an explorer” and “I would also like a hot shower”. Gorgeous beds, stone-built bathrooms, solar-heated water, flushing toilets (yay), a private terrace for sundowners and an outdoor shower that glows under the night sky. What more could you ask for?

Into the Wild

Days here have a way of escalating. What begins as a gentle walk through the savannah quickly gives way to razor-sharp pinnacles and ancient caves hiding traces of early human life. Hike past towering baobabs, descend through lush canyons, and climb to viewpoints that make the landscape look even more improbable. Before you know it, you’ll be diving into gatorade-blue pools fringed by forest with a couple of wide-eyed spectators watching from the treetops. Let’s not forget, this is a Madagascan safari after all!

And it doesn’t stop when the sun dips. Lemurs, tenrecs, chameleons, geckos and bats are up to all types of shenanigans at night! Nocturnal safaris may quickly become your favourite thing.

Food Philosophy

At Namoroka, meals are alfresco affairs — fresh, unfussy, and surrounded by nature. Ingredients are as locally sourced as geography allows (given the journey you took to get here, you get the idea). And the camp manages to keep you on your toes. A picnic could be waiting around any corner!

One more thing

You know you’re somewhere truly special when your camp doubles as a research station. Wildlife Madagascar is based right here, quietly doing extraordinary work: reconnecting forest corridors, uncovering new species, and protecting one of the most fragile ecosystems on the planet. Their most recent headline was the rediscovery of the Namoroka Leafy Chameleon, a species first documented in 1980 and not properly photographed until now. Forty-five years of hiding, found. Madagascar, as ever, still has secrets.
