Setting the Scene
The original Antarctic base camp, Whichaway Camp is on a rare ice-free patch of earth, surrounded by peppermint-blue cliffs and overlooks an ancient frozen lake. It’s as exclusive as it gets – since the camp’s accessible only by private charter flight, you’re highly unlikely to bump into your neighbour here (if you do, you probably need help).
Wildly Stylish Sleeping Arrangements
Six lunar-like heated pods make for snug retreats after exploring one of the world’s last wildernesses, be that by ice climbing, abseiling, glacier hiking or ziplining (cue James Bond-style Antarctic mission montage). Post-adventure massages are complimentary.
Food Philosophy
Meals are served in the deliciously cosy dining pod around a table with fluffy chairs and heaters to keep things snug. No freeze-dried expedition fuel here – fresh produce (and wine!) is flown in weekly. Over a nightcap, you can share your stories and photos from the day with other guests – there’s a photographer hanging around, so if you’re not the best with cameras, or you just want to be in the moment, rest assured a professional is busy capturing your best bits.
Also…
There’s plenty to do in camp, too, even if that’s just resting with a view – the fronts of the pods are fully windowed, so you can take an afternoon break in the warmth while absorbing the surreal surrounds. Brave a chilly plunge in the ice bath, then recover the feeling in your legs in the wooden sauna. Or do a yoga session in the camp’s transparent dome – so you can still admire the landscape in downward dog.
