The Legendary Wilson Masiya
Named after legendary master tracker Wilson Masiya, Masiya’s Camp is more than a place to stay. It’s a tribute to a man whose life was shaped by the bush and who, in turn, shaped the way we experience it. Born on the edge of Kruger, Wilson fled war-torn Mozambique in 1977, guiding his family 130 kilometres on foot through the bush to safety. His extraordinary courage, talent, and skill eventually earned him a place among only eight master trackers in the world. Masiya’s Camp honours Wilson’s memory and carries his spirit forward with a deep reverence for the land he called home.
A Fresh Take on Safari
Throw the neutral-on-neutral safari palette out the window. Masiya’s is a glorious rebellion of colour, pattern and texture, wrapped up in a dusty-rose circus-top canvas camp with unapologetic flair. Step inside, and you’ll find an absolute riot of design choices. Think zebra stripes and kingfisher feathers thrown into a design blender. This is safari completely reimagined (and just a touch hallucinatory), like a Hidden Africa fever dream.
Each of the six suites is a stylish reimagining of the traditional safari tent, canvas walls and all, but with far more sass. They each bring their own brand of eclectic brilliance, walking the line between vintage and modern, exotic and classic. Floor-to-ceiling windows blur the boundary between inside and wild. The beds are a visual depiction of a good night’s sleep, the bath has a savannah view, and the private deck and heated plunge pool make it feel like the bush is yours alone. Not to mention, you’ve got enough indoor-outdoor space to do cartwheels.
Dine with a View
Meals are a performance in themselves, served on an open-air deck beside a watering hole known for spontaneous elephant visits. The menu? It’s curated just for you, whether it’s a crisp bite by the pool or a six-course affair with wine pairings and a sommelier in tow. At night, dine by lantern light under the stars, with the crackle of fire and hyenas cackling in the distance to set the scene. There’s even a whiskey tasting on request, because why wouldn’t there be?
Wildlife & Conservation
Game drives and bush walks are just the start. At Masiya’s, safari isn’t just about sightings; it’s about being part of the bigger story, and conservation is at the forefront. Guests can track wild dogs, assist in rhino dehorning, or monitor elephants! Bearing witness is one thing, but being part of the work? That’s unforgettable.
