OK, so technically the Intercontinental O.R. Tambo doesn’t tick the boxes of one of our typical out-of-the-ordinary destinations. But that certainly doesn’t make it any less extraordinary. (We’re very fussy when it comes to that sort of thing.) Just a martini olive pip’s throw from the check-in counters of Southern Africa’s undisputed safari gateway, O.R. Tambo International Airport, the InterContinental is as wonderfully comfy as it is convenient. And let’s face it, when there’s a long journey ahead of – or behind – you, the only surprises you need along the way should be great ones. Like how sublime the massages are, how pretty the city lights look from the rooftop spa, or how peacefully you’ll sleep. (Planes? What planes?)
