Setting the Scene
Set around a waterlogged pan (nature’s pub), Chicari Camp is for those who want the safari experience around the clock. Wake up to the dawn chorus, have lunch on the deck with views of waterbuck munching the lush grass, maybe even wild dogs trotting through, and listen to lions roaring from the comfort of your bed at night.
Cool Camping
There are eight small canvas tents around the pan and two ‘tree hide’ tents with a shared deck – ideal for friends or a family. The interiors are simple, but super comfy, with plush beds that catch the breeze when the tent sides are rolled up during the day, an afternoon nap being a safari essential. You can watch the pan from your private deck – keep a pair of binos close to hand, as there’s always something going on at the local watering hole.
One more thing
After a day of game drives spotting lions and elephants or maybe an afternoon boat cruise across the Urema floodplain (a birder’s delight, get that checklist ready), you’ll return to camp where a crackling fire invites story-swaps with fellow guests. White tablecloths are laid out for dinner, but that’s as fancy as it gets. Expect solid comfort food, well done (that’s quality, not how your steak’s cooked), with ample quantities of good wine from neighbouring South Africa.
