The iconic Southern Africa tour Luxury South Africa Safari and Victoria Falls

This Luxury South Africa Safari and Victoria Falls itinerary is a journey that plays the classics. And whether it’s the tinkling of ice in a crisp chenin blanc in Cape Town, the growl of a patrolling lion in the Kruger National Park or the thundering roar of the mighty Victoria Falls – it’s all music to our ears. They’re called the classics for a reason, you see.

Your Luxury South Africa Safari and Victoria Falls tour kicks off in Cape Town, where a city with a fine-dining problem meets the great outdoors, with Table Mountain National Park running the length of the peninsula. There’s nowhere in the world that has this enticing combination of intriguing wildlife (from caracals on the mountain to penguins on the beach), jaw-dropping scenery and world-class restaurants. Your stay at Camissa House will be your sanctuary amidst the thrills.

Next, a 2.5-hour flight in an Embraer executive jet will whisk you to Kruger National Park, one of Africa’s greatest wildlife reserves. Londolozi Varty Lodge is in the heart of the park, and delivers outstanding opportunities to see all the wildlife you’ve come for.

Finally, it’s off to the Victoria Falls to marvel at the world’s largest sheet of falling water – and you’re doing it in style at the Victoria Falls River Lodge. No trip to Southern Africa is complete without a pilgrimage to this natural wonder.

Break it down Itinerary overview

Camissa House is home for four nights of pure indulgence in Cape Town. Voted the best city to in the world by Time Out, you’re in the ideal spot to discover why. Having your own home in lofty Oranjezicht gives you the chance to live like a local. Check in and head out to explore the urban jungle – award-winning five-star dining is within walking distance.

Start today with a privately guided food walking tour. To get your taste buds firing, try a samoosa then pop into the neighbourhood spice market. Investigate delis, artisanal bakeries, coffee shops and restaurants, while learning about the city’s historical food-supply station provenance, as well as its captivating architecture and history. Now’s your chance to stock up on wine and other treats. There’s also an option to combine this with a trip up Table Mountain today.

Head to the V&A Waterfront, the hub for discovering the treasures of the Cape – from hop-on-hop-off topless bus tours to sunset cruises in Table Bay, and some world-class shopping. Today is ideal for a Peninsula tour. Discover the extraordinary beauty of the coastline, take in the dazzling white beaches, and visit an African penguin colony. Your turning point (metaphorically and literally) is Cape Point, the dramatic tip of the peninsula – and the African continent (because we say it is).

Today we head to the exceptionally lovely Winelands. Explore Stellenbosch’s historic city centre, followed by a couple of wine tastings and a long lazy lunch, paired with delicious (and deservedly award-winning) wines. Back in the city, the sensory spoils are not quite done. Treat yourself to a fabulous dinner in the Waterfront, paired with a dark-chocolatey red Pinotage, happily bewitched by the twinkling lights of the working harbour.

Today after breakfast, you have a comfortable 2.5-hour direct flight from Cape Town to Skukuza Airport in the heart of the Kruger. A short drive to Londolozi Varty Camp puts you bang in the middle of sizzling traditional safari territory, right on the Sand River. You’ll make it in time for your first thrilling game drive and sundowners in the bush. Cheers!

The game drives at Londolozi leave early in the morning, and late in the afternoon, when the animals are most active. During the day, especially if it’s warmer, the predators rest up in the shade – which gives you time for your own well-earned siesta. If you weren’t aware, this safari staple comprises a hearty late-morning/midday meal and then time off to rest and relax, think about your morning drive, or this evening’s, read a book, write in your journal, have a spa treatment, or lounge at the pool.

Enjoy a quiet G&T alongside the Sand River, listening to the spine-tingling roar of a dominant male lion. Three nights is the perfect amount of time for a safari. It gives you two full days to explore the bush and track animals, and generally soak up the wild otherness of it all.

Today, after your last morning game drive, you head to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport for your direct flight to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Here you stay at the Victoria Falls River Lodge, a beautiful safari camp on the banks of the Zambezi River. Its the perfect base form which to explore the national park as well as the charming town and the Falls.

Vic Falls is considered the adventure capital of the world, and offers almost uncountable experiences – from life-affirming to what feels like near-death to some. The Falls themselves are only 20 minutes from the lodge, and a great place to start. Daily game drives are included, or we can arrange a heli flip – called the Flight of Angels, a nod to David Livingstone’s famous quote – which delivers heavenly views of the Falls and the wildlife in the national park.

All good things should never come to an end. But here you are – packing for your direct flight back to Cape Town and onward journey home. Hope there’s space in your luggage for all the memories. Sara mushe, as we say in Shona. Goodbye. And safe travels.
