Travellers claim Eden in many places, including the Seychelles and Maldives islands; but you’d be remiss not to include the Bazaruto Archipelago on that treasured list. It is the name of an archipelago just offshore of Vilankulo in Mozambique, and also the largest of its six closely clustered islands.
Some people say there is nothing worth doing on these golden keys…(our definition of holiday heaven), unless you enjoy water sports, including snorkeling or scuba diving. Bazaruto Archipelago has some of the most pristine and varied coral reefs of the Indian Ocean at your toe-tips. Big game fish abound (the place holds the all-tackle world record for a brassy trevally at 7.9 kg), as well as large rays, whales and whale sharks in summer. But it is the local population of highly endangered dugongs, marine mammals closely related to manatees, which are the VIPS. Then again many visitors seem happy to just sit beneath the swaying palms, sipping cocktails, and dreaming of paradise.
