Artfully tucked among a tumble of granite boulders sits Sonop Lodge, a tented throwback to the grand desert expeditions of the 1920s, where the only greenery you’ll see for miles is the gleaming top of a billiards table. Sonop’s elevated position with spectacular views has earned its status as our honorary desert ‘treehouse’. Here, life moves at a deliciously slow pace. Start the day with a guided desert yoga experience. Explore the surrounds on Shanks’s pony – or even a real one, if you like. Dine on five stylish courses served in a sea of crystal and polished-within-an-inch-of-its-life silverware. And end each picture-perfect day with a magical movie, snuggled up under the stars in the camp’s open-air cinema.
The Sonop Lodge Experience
The remote Sonop Lodge is nestled on the southern edge of the Namib desert, situated in a private reserve roughly 220km south of Sossusvlei. The excursion to Sossusvlei includes a champagne breakfast and on your return, an open-air cinema experience complete with popcorn. This hideaway is all about the desert and the tents, with breathtaking views overlooking a hypnotic landscape.
