You want different? How about sleeping in one of ten exquisite little “shipwrecks” flung among the dunes of one of the world’s most hostile stretches of coastline, where brown hyenas casually stroll along the beach and jackals snack on expired seals. Different enough? Marvel at the strange lichens that survive on little more than a suck of sea fog, at the maniacal tok-tokkies beetling along the dunes, and at the endless shapes and shadows of the ever-shifting sands. (Pro tip: sunrise and sunset are the best times to snap those iconic dune pics.)
The Shipwreck Lodge Experience
The lodge is in the Skeleton Coast concession between the Hoarusib and Hoanib rivers. The star attraction of this rugged coast is the Atlantic Ocean and its barking, growling cape fur seals. The seals are often visited by opportunistic brown hyena as well as by black back jackal. For the active, there is a chance to enjoy different desert activities like dune surfing and quad biking.
