To the far east of the salty desert that is the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park you’ll find San Camp – the stuff of Kalahari dreams. From meerkats to quadbikes and desert-style game-viewing on foot, you might be here for thrills over frills, but you’re not exactly slumming it. The dining pavilion’s creamy, vintage-style tents are furnished with brass-accented teak and strewn with natural fibre rugs. Even the pinstriped lining seems to subtly match the heaving herds of zebra beyond.
The San Camp Experience
Located on the edge of a vast salt pan, this experience is very different to the delta, as is the wildlife. Man-made waterholes attract zebra and wildebeest whose numbers swell dramatically around March. Desert-adapted wildlife includes black back jackal and curious meerkats. Activities are centered around 4×4 drives, including night drives, in the Makgadikgadi National Park. Quad biking is seasonal and happens only in the dry season.
