Nyamatusi Camp is situated in a wild and remote corner of Mana Pools, on the Zimbabwean side of the Zambezi river. On either side of the Zambezi, an age-old debate rages: which of its banks is better. But when you’re staring out at the river from one of only four intimate suites at the tail end of the Great African Rift Valley, you probably won’t even remember your name, let alone what side you’re on. Raggle-taggle thatching and knobbly mahogany walkways frame the outward appearance of Nyamatusi Camp. Don’t be fooled. Tucked away behind these purposefully rustic design choices lies a sanctuary of plush feather beds, private plunge pools, open-air showers (with plenty of space for two, wink wink) and perfectly placed lanterns so idyllic we’ve forgotten to mention the abundant wildlife. See what we mean?
Stuff we love
Nyamatusi Camp, a river runs through it
- Trawling for tigerfish on a warm afternoon, with just a gentle breeze and a cold beer to take the edge off.
- Tracking down the resident pack of wild dogs and then clinging on for dear life as you join them on the hunt.
- Watching elephants balance on two legs, trunks outstretched to the seed pods of the winterthorn trees above.
