With views looking out over an almost-too-blue ocean, Mnemba Island Lodge is every beach dream you’ve been sold. And it lives up to it all. White sand, wild, wonder-ful—tick, tick, tick (in fact, this is where you come when therapy’s not working).
The rustic bandas, made of natural materials like wood, thatch and palm fronds, are hidden on the edge of the island’s lush forest. Every guest gets a private “Beach Lounge” with daybeds, sun loungers, and even an alfresco shower à deux. Oh, and a beach butler on hand to grant your every wish.
You can plan a romantic barefoot walk around the island, snorkel, sunbathe, or simply claim your own stretch of white sand. You can even bring your downward dog to the beach (if daily yoga isn’t too much of a stretch).
Wellness treatments on the beach? Check. Prefer action? The Mnemba Atoll has some of the best dive sites in Zanzibar and the island’s dive centre just got an upgrade (we love a good makeover!). Most dive sites are only a 10-20 minute boat ride away. A few can even be reached right from shore. Non-divers, no worries—you can dip your toe in with a PADI Discover Scuba course. And if snorkelling is more your speed, the coral house reef just off the beach is alive with tropical colour.
Mnemba Island is also a nesting site for endangered Green turtles. You might even witness thousands of tiny hatchlings making their brave scramble to the sea.
