An intimate version of the main Governors’ Camp, Little Governors’ has 17 en-suite tents, tucked away on the perimeter of the magnificent Mara and in one of the best areas to see wildlife, from lions and cheetahs to the Great Migration herds.
The camp is accessed via a quick boat trip across the Mara River (bet the wildebeest wish they had this option) followed by a short forest walk – a mini adventure right on arrival.
Facing a seasonal marsh, there’s plenty to see right from your tent’s veranda – perhaps watching warthogs grazing, munching their way along, blissfully unaware of their wholly unfair inclusion in the so-called Ugly Five.
Elephants are known to meander through camp, too. (look up) And if they don’t make an appearance during your stay, you’ll certainly see them on game drives or maybe even on a hot air balloon flight (Little Governors’ is handily close to the balloon launch site– another incentive, as if you needed one).
To maximise your wildlife-spotting time, you can stay out for the whole day with a picnic lunch. Return to camp for sundowners by the fire and a cosy dinner by candlelight. If you opt for the usual morning and afternoon drives, you can take a leisurely lunch on the deck, followed by a massage in your tent. Spa treatments involve a concoction of herbs, such as mint, lemongrass, and holy basil, which are a treat for the olfactory system as well as knotty muscles.
