At Kuro, hidden in the heart of Tarangire, the camps not-so-secret elephant treehouse is perfect for lazy afternoons of game viewing from the comfort of a bean bag—just bring binos.
There’s a lot of excitement around here when we discover a new treehouse (we’re slightly obsessed). This authentic tented camp blends so seamlessly into the landscape, passing wildlife hardly bat an eye. Elephants wander right under the treehouse a couple of times a day, but it’s no wonder, as Tarangire is the best spot in the northern safari circuit to see these giants.
Six generously sized tents are thoughtfully plonked beside the Tarangire River in the shade of several acacia trees. The river meanders through the park, attracting a steady stream of wildlife, especially during the dry months of August and September. Picture large herds of thirsty elephants and buffalo, numerous lion prides, and over 500 species of birds, all gathering along the river.
Away from camp, there is a vast, wild, and wonderful park to explore, and when you return, it may be to a surprise breakfast in the treehouse. (don’t shout it from the treetops).
