King’s Pool I named for the Scandinavian royalty who fell in love here once upon a time, eight elegant thatched suites fan out around a pretty oxbow lake – the only thing separating you from neighbouring Namibia’s Caprivi strip. With its vast swathes of cathedral mopane woodland, termite mound-dotted pans and lush green floodplains, King’s Pool’s gloriously remote location is a haven for romantics (to say nothing of elephants, leopards and wild dogs) and for seasoned safari goers hooked on tracking down some of the most unusual sightings around. If you prefer the wildlife to come to you, the sunken hide draws dusty herds to the water’s edge at eye level. It’s magic.
The King’s Pool Experience
King’s Pool is one of only a few permanent lodges within the expansive Linyanti Reserve, right on the border between Namibia and Botswana. The Linyanti offers good year-round game viewing with a focus on game drives. Leopard sightings are common as are large herds of elephant and buffalo. There are two hides, one on the river and a sunken hide a short drive away. For the active, there’s a mini gym in your closest, complete with yoga mats.
