Duba Plains is hands-down one of Botswana’s most extraordinary safari experiences. Straight out of the pages of National Geographic, its home to thronging herds of Cape Buffalo* trailed by hungry lions, who are remarkably unfazed by all the water. Thoughtfully plonked in the shade of several towering jackalberry trees, the camp invites you into another world. Heavy Zanzibari doors give way to reclaimed railway-sleeper decks, campaign-style furniture, deep red Persian rugs and burnished brass, so painstakingly polished you can practically see your face in every piece. From swimming cats to unrivalled comfort, you feel the need to pinch yourself – often.
*Don’t be that “look, it’s a water buffalo!” person.
The Duba Plains Experience
Duba Plains is in the northern part of the Okavango Delta and home to large herds of buffalo. (Some sightings report herds up to 600 buffalo strong.) You may never want to leave your luxurious room but that’s okay because there’s a constant stream of wildlife passing by. Boating is seasonal and activities are mostly focused on 4×4 game drives.
